About

By trade, I am an academic, teaching aerospace engineering in the UK.  Paraffinalia is my site for random jottings on politics, mostly in Ireland and Italy, the odd anti-bad-science rant, some translation, and what I am pleased to call `thoughts’ on university policy and practice.

Besides the usual publications in academic journals, I have written for Vulpes Libris, Irish Left Review, and the Honest Ulsterman, and translated Gramsci for the Marxists Internet Archive.

It’s called Paraffinalia because of an unfortunate incident involving 17 litres of kerosene and a motorcycle.

I have written some software which is useful to the people it is useful to, and available from my github page.
